Description
A Direct Supports Staff is someone who works directly with people who have an intellectual or developmental disability. The staff has the primary responsibility to help maximize the independence of the individuals served, the development of their work skills, and help to provide access to services which are intended to support vocational skills. They help people become integrated and engaged in their community as they are also helping them realize their full potential.
General Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
Requirements
1. Evidence of High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Time Management and organizational skills
3. Ability to work independently
4. Ability/willingness to work a flexible schedule allowing for early morning or evening appointments, trainings, meetings or scheduled work.
5. A valid Kansas State Driver’s License
6. Good driving record
7. Valid work forms as identified on the Federal I-9
8. No record of felony criminal activity or registration on the Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation registry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide vocational services relating to the work skills needed for the individual consumer.
1. Assist in assuring the overall health, safety, and well-being of those we serve.
2. Assist with the planning and implementation of person-centered goals that promote a person’s preferred lifestyle, build daily living skills, and promote independence.
3. Support and teach individuals the necessary skills to lead productive, responsible, and meaningful lives to the best of ability including on-site employment skills, overall job-readiness, and tasks related to living an independent lifestyle.
4. Help develop and implement strategies designed to promote informed, independent choice-making for persons served.
5. Provide opportunities for community integration including volunteer activities and integrated community employment.
6. Encourage participation in recreational and cultural activities.
7. Assist in completing records necessary to monitor individual progress, service quality, and compliance with industry standards.
8. Follow established confidentiality, professional, and ethical standards.
9. Adhere to the policies and procedures as established by WillowTree Supports.
10. Perform all other duties as assigned.
